Directors Developments Oct 2017

October 2017

It is hard to believe that we are already in Week 6 of the Autumn Term! I was going to say where did the summer go? But I should also say where did September go? It has been a lovely start to this academic year all being back together. We particularly extend a warm welcome to our new families and we know that your children will have a successful and happy time with us at Beehive.

It has been a joy to open Bumblebees and welcome our first ever set of Bumblebees! It is such a happy, vibrant setting for the children and we want to say a massive thank you to Miss Bora, Miss Teaca, Mrs. Abery and Mrs Lewington, who have worked so hard to get it up and running so magnificently.

The new Senior Prep Classroom is a great addition and with the removal of a lot of shrubs and trees the playground remains the same size! The new toilet block has been well-received by the children who use it… it is their job to look after it! A big thank you to all staff who worked so hard over the summer to get their classrooms and the school ready for the children’s return.

We also welcome Mrs. Walker and Mr. Anti to the staff team. Most of you have met Mrs. Walker and already as our new Director of Studies she has made a wonderful contribution to us all. We know both of them will be very happy with us at Beehive.

Mrs Walker is currently working with some children in her Maths group and will look to enter some children for the GCSE examination next year.  We are really happy that Mrs. Walker is able to facilitate this initiative which has been in the school development plan for a few years now.  Watch this space.

Congratulations to all of our Senior Prep Children who sat their 11+ Grammar school exams at the start of September.  We are very proud of you.

We continue to develop our ICT provision for the children. We now have a class set of tablets that enable the children to learn how to code. It is amazing what they are able to do. We look forward to helping breed our new generation of Computer Scientists.

The weather has been unpredictable to say the least. Our aim is that children are in the most appropriate clothes for learning. To this end, the Directors have agreed to allow the following flexibility.

Until October half term holiday:            Summer uniform may be worn if the weather is still warm.

Until May half term holiday:      Winter uniform may be worn if the weather is still cold.

OUR CHARITY of the YEAR:                        WaterAid

We have decided to adopt a Charity for the academic year that will focus the children on development issues and the needs of others around the world. In celebration of our new toilet block we have chosen to support WaterAid The School Council will be taking a lead on this project, but we are asking all families to look at the website and discuss what you as a family might be able to do to support them. It is a tragedy that not everyone in our world has access to clean water and safe sanitation. We want to help change that.

Friday 20th October during the school day. School is closed for pupils and appointments will be sent out nearer the time. However, Bumblebees will still be open as usual.

Admissions have been very busy over the past few months.  Our Bumblebees class is FULL for the next academic year and we are already filling spaced fast for NEXT academic Year.  If you want to enroll your child, or you know anyone who has a child aged 3 or 4 that may want a space please get them to contact the school office as soon as possible or tell them to head to our NEW and IMPROVED website which has a registration form available for download. We do already have some applicants for 2019.

Our 4+ Assessment Afternoon for children entering main school is set for Friday November 10th.  If you have any siblings or cousins who you know are looking for entry for September 2018 into the main school, they MUST have completed a registration form upon which Mrs. Lewington will send out invites for the afternoon.  Places are filling fast.

Starting this year, we are offering a new main entry point into the school at 7+. This entry point is based upon academic achievement and is considered through an exam.  Our Examination Day is Friday 17th November.  If you know anyone with children who are currently in Year 2 please do let them know about this new entry point to the school.  We are also offering SCHOLARSHIP places for children who perform exceptionally well during this exam.  Scholarship awards will be between 25% and 100% and based purely upon achievement in both English and Mathematics.  Current parents with children in Year 2 can also apply for this opportunity.  Again, if you know anyone with children in Year 2 who may be looking for entry or are scholarship material please do tell them to look at the website or call the school to get an application form.  We are very excited about this opportunity.

Although our main points of entry to Beehive are 3+ (Bumblebees) 4+ Foundation and 7+ (Junior Prep) if a space is available at other points, we can consider entry.

An Annual Calendar is attached to try and help you plan.

Please note SATURDAY 18th NOVEMBER 7pm will be a social event for all children and families. We would love to see you all there.
